New Week

We had an enjoyable trip this past weekend down to visit Paul and Karry (Justin's oldest Brother and his family) down in Alpine Texas. We got to enjoy a wonderful time with them and played lots of Wii! We are converting the world! We went and enjoyed a wonderful German meal at a little german restaurant called Edel Weiss (Sorry for the spelling--Obviously I am not a german speaker). It was nice to be able to take another break from Lubbock. AS much as we love it here, we have come to realize that it is nice to get out and visit other places too! Alpine is a tiny little town. We went to Paul and Karry's branch for church on Sunday in the smallest little chapel I have ever seen. There was a room that had a divider, it doubled as the room for relief society.priesthood rooms, Sunday School, and Sacrament meeting. The primary, which had about 12 kids in it was set up in an addition to the chapel. There was a small room for the nursery that had about 3 kids in it. I was amazed at how small the branch was. Justin has spent time in small branches, but I have never been exposed to them before. It was a new experience for me and I enjoyed it. Everyone was so incredibly nice and polite and so friendly down there. It was fun. Thanks again Paul and Karry for letting us visit!

Out next family trip will be falling probably about spring break week. We will be taking the girls and going off to Utah for a wedding. Dad and Kay Bruce will be getting married on March 21 in Ogden. We were fortunate to meet Kay while in Vegas for Christmas and we all loved her. Jaicie attached hersel quickly to Kay. Before even being told that dad and Kay were getting married, Jaicie looked up at Kay and said "Kay, you can be my grandma, cause my grandma went to Heaven." Jaicie loved Kay as soon as she met her and she is excited that we can go to Utah to see Grandpa and Grandma Kay get married. We are not sure of our exact dates for travel, but we will let everyone in Utah know. It is our hope that we can get together at least once with our friends as well as have a chance to visit all of our family members there. We are looking into renting a car while we are there.

As for me, I will be making my first trip to Austin next week. I am so excited to go out there. It will be nice to get a better idea of what my responsibilities on the state level are.

We will be having our ultrasound on Feb 1 and will make a post with the results. We have every intention of finding out what we are having. I would go crazy not knowing. We are excited to find out what new little angel will be joining our family.

Jaicie is doing well in school. She has now basically mastered writing her first and last name. She is focusing now on making sure the her letters hit the lines where they are supposed to. Grass flowers and sky is the way that they teach kids to write these days. It is really cute to hear Jaicie talk about the a needing to go to the flowers and the C needing to go to the sky. (grass=bottom line, flowers=middle line, sky=top line) She has started reading more and is doing well. We are going to start focusing on words and building words in order to help her understand reading a little more. Jaicie has be diagnosed with Asthma and does nightly treatment with a nebulizer. It has made a tremendous difference in her breathing and coughing. We are so happy to have such a great pediatrician!

Felicity is beginning to learn her letters. She knows O really well. O is for Octopus, she tells us repeatedly. THis week we are focusing on A-D. We are also helping her learn about numbers. We have decided to put of potty training because of our trip to Utah in March. We are still working on encouraging her to tell us before she goes in her diaper. So we are working with her but not trying to push it to fast. I guess it will come when she is ready.

Justin is working on his system disorders course. He begins rotations in July and is really excited. He loves his courses and is keeping especially busy with everything. He takes good care of me though even with how busy he is. He has cooked dinner a lot lately!

Other than that, things are going really well for us. We are happy and healthy and
continue to see things in our life improve! We are so blessed in life and have more blessings than we can count! Hope this week goes wonderfully for you all!

New Year--New Challenges

So I decided that it was time---time to potty train Felicity. I hate the thought of it. I hate the idea that it may be as difficult as it was with Jaicie. (2 year battle). But I can't put it off just because of my fears. She is ready to start it and so badly wants to wear big girl panties. So we decided that this week was going to be a introduction time. Getting her more familiar with using the potty instead of her diaper, but still leaving her in diapers. Next week though, we jump all the way into big girl panties. I am truly scared of this challenge. It was quite an ordeal with Jaicie and I am not looking forward to anything like that, but like I said, I can't keep putting it off just because Jaicie was a challenge doing it.

This is going to be an interesting year, full of new things and new surprises I am sure! Here is what we are looking forward to this year, or at least some of them anyway!

--Baby #3 due June 20...hopefully coming earlier, like June 4...
--Justin takes his boards probably June 30, maybe in Houston
--Justin starts clinicals/3rd year of med school.
--maybe christmas again in Vegas, not sure on that one yet.
--at least one trip north, michelle's house, maybe further, we will have to see how everything works out.
--Trips to Austin, San Antonio, maybe DC and Chicago...(see my last post)
--did I mention a new baby
--Jaicie starts Kindergarten...real school! AWWWW!
--Felicity may start preschool, though probably not til she's 4, but maybe...

well, i know that there is more, but i can't think of anything else to put down at the moment...so, maybe I will add more later. But at any rate, this will be an eventful year, full of so many new things.

So, better late then never---Happy New Year! We Clayton's hope that "the best of last year is the worst of next year" To quote someone from church in Vegas, not sure who said that, but someone did!

New Responsibilities

WOW! What a way to start the new year. This morning I got a call from the President of the State Medical Alliance. First of all, the medical alliance is an organization for spouses for physicians. There is a county/city level, state level and National Level. We are associated with the AMA and the TMA and so forth. Well, Patrick, the new president for the Texas Medical Association Alliance called me this morning. He asked me to serve on his board as the APT Chair. The APT chair is the basically, for lack of a better word, the chair for the Medical Student Spouse Alliance for the whole state. Right now I am serving as a Co-President for the school alliance. He said that my name came with high recommendations from all of the staff with the alliance, as well as the previous APT chair. I couldn't believe that everyone suggested me for the job. It will be a huge responsibility. I will be acting as a liaison for all of the Texas medical school alliances. I will get to attend free seminars. There is actually a trip to Chicago in June that I would get to for free, but with the baby coming, I can't make that. But there is a trip to DC, Austin, San Antonio, and possibly trips to other medical schools to help them get their alliance more involved at the state level. It is crazy! I can't say how flattered I am to be asked. It looks like I will be taking a trip to Austin the end of this month for a short (day long) retreat to get to know the other board members. WOW...That is all that I can say right now! WOW!
